PROJECT 1 : ME , MYSELF & I (Project 1a: Stewardship)

Project 1a: Stewardship 
  •  Students need to sketch their own face (self-portrait) with a pencil (black & white)

§     Students also need to write some descriptions about themselves, by describing their:
i)                     Personal background
ii)                   How they see themselves in 5 years later
iii)                  As an architect / interior designer / urban & regional planner / building surveyor / building technologist / quantity surveyor / or construction manager, what can they contribute for the betterment of the built environment




PROJECT 1 : ME , MYSELF & I (Project 1b: Personal Logo)


  • Students need to create a ' PERSONAL LOGO ' that best reflects their personality and strengths.
  • Students should also need to clarify the design of the logo by describing the rationales for design elements used (such as line, shape, form, colour etc).




PROJECT 2 : NATURAL & MAN-MADE STRUCTURES ( Project 2a: Natural Structure )

§  Students are required to produce a black & white sketch of a natural structurethat can be found around USM Main Campus e.g. trees & plants, insects, animals, other creatures etc.
§  The sketch should include the elements of light and shadow.
§  Students are also required to do write up (using ‘uppercase architectural lettering’) describing the object chosen for the sketch.



PROJECT 2 : NATURAL & MAN-MADE STRUCTURES ( Project 2b: Man-Made Structure )

  • Students are required to produce a coloured drawing of a man-made structure that can be found around USM Main Campus.
  • Students are also required to do write up (using uppercase architectural lettering) describing the object chosen for drawing.





PROJECT 3a : OBJECT CREATION : A FREE-FORM SCULPTURE

§  Each student is required to create an object of a free-from sculpture that can be made from any materials (new or recycled)
§  The theme of the sculpture is ‘HARMONY’, but each student is free to choose their specific concept that is relevant to the stipulated theme.
§  The maximum size of the sculpture is 250mm (width), 300mm (length) and 450mm (height)
§  Each student should also include (freehand) written statement to describe about their sculpture design 



PROJECT 3b: OBJECTS CONNECTION: A COMFORTABLE CHAIR

§  In group of 3, students are required to produce a structural model of a wooden L-shape seating object that combines a table and chair(s) (students are free to design and decide the form of each chair/sofa/table/desk)
§  Besides aesthetical factors, students should also consider the function of the furniture as an outdoor comfortable resting spot for HBP community and visitors (as it will be placed near the HBP pond-waterfall).
§  The theme of that seating object is ‘UNITY’, but each group is free to choose their specific concept that is relevant to the stipulated theme.



PROJECT 4 : PRESENTATION DRAWINGS


§  Based on Project 3B (Objects Connection), students are required to produce a planand elevations (front, right, left and rear) drawings of their wooden comfortable chair.
§  The drawings should be coloured based on the actual condition of their respective comfortable chair (not based on the colour of their structural model).
§  Drawings should be in A3 size and 1:20 scale.
§  Based on their comfortable chair design, each student is also required to produce at least one coloured:
i)                     axonometric drawing (1:20 scale), and
ii)          perspective drawing (with human figure shown)




PROJECT 5 : SENSE OF PLACE: NEIGHBOURHOOD & COMMUNITY ( Project 5a: Neighbourhood Elements: Existing Condition )

§  On A2-size presentation board, students should draw the Key Plan (NTS – Not To Scale), the Location Plan (NTS) and the Layout Plan of the chosen neighbourhood area in scale (1:500, 1:750 or any appropriate scale).
§  For the layout plan, students should indicate the exact name and dimension (size) of all neighbourhood element observed in the chosen area as follows:
i)                     Movement Network
-          Vehicular Circulation: Type of street (street hierarchy) with its dimensions (size)
-          Pathways for Pedestrian, Cyclist and Disabled
ii)                   Lot Layout
-          Name or type of building (bungalow, semi-d, terrace etc.), lot size and setback, plot ratio, access and road reserve
iii)                  Public Open Space
iv)                  Public Facilties and Amenities
-          Lot size and setback of each community facilities e.g. surau, multipurpose hall, kindergarten or nursery, food court, etc
v)                    Landscape and Street Furniture.



PROJECT 5 : SENSE OF PLACE: NEIGHBOURHOOD & COMMUNITY ( Project 5b: Neighbourhood Elements: Proposed Improvement )

§  Based on the self-visit to the chosen neighbourhood area (where its current condition is presented in Project 5a), students should propose some suggestions to improve the physical and non-physical conditions of the neighbourhood area by presenting it graphically in the Project 5b.
§  By using annotated sketches and some descriptions (hand-written), students should make some suggestions for the improvement of:
i)                     Movement Network (vehicular circulation, pathways for pedestrian, cyclist and disabled etc.)
ii)                   Lot Layout
iii)                  Public Open Space
iv)                  Public Facilities and Amenities

v)                   Landscape and Street Furniture.



PROJECT 6: INTEGRATED PROJECT: DESIGN & BUILD ‘AN AMPHITHEATRE STAGE
