PROJECT 3a : OBJECT CREATION : A FREE-FORM SCULPTURE

§  Each student is required to create an object of a free-from sculpture that can be made from any materials (new or recycled)
§  The theme of the sculpture is ‘HARMONY’, but each student is free to choose their specific concept that is relevant to the stipulated theme.
§  The maximum size of the sculpture is 250mm (width), 300mm (length) and 450mm (height)
§  Each student should also include (freehand) written statement to describe about their sculpture design

Since the theme of this project is harmony, the first thing that came into my mind is the harmony between living things in the world. It can be the harmony between human beings, or harmony between animals and plants, and also harmony between human and other living things.

I love green and the harmony of the environment is always the main issue that I am concerning about. Therefore, I had an idea of doing a sculpture with human and plants interacting in a harmonious situation. Hence, I had decided to use wires to complete my whole Project 3a with a human being playing on a swing which was hung around an old big tree.

These are some of the materials I bought for making the 100% steel wire sculpture. On the right hand side, it is the tree trunk in which I had used thousands and millions of steel wire, rolled and wrapped them together, until the shape like in the picture beside came out.

The tree with the branches.

The 'little human' that I had made.

The completion of my sculpture!!!
(100% made of steel)
I am very satisfied with my sculpture, although it had tortured me a lot especially when dealing it by bending the wires with different thickness. However, no complaints should me made if you want to success as no one can achieve success in life without going through any hardships.

PROJECT 2 : NATURAL & MAN-MADE STRUCTURES ( Project 2b: Man-Made Structure )

  • Students are required to produce a coloured drawing of a man-made structure that can be found around USM Main Campus.
  • Students are also required to do write up (using uppercase architectural lettering) describing the object chosen for drawing.

For this project, there are many interesting places which can be chosen to draw. I decided to choose a bus-stop near Dewan Budaya and the School of Art. I had chosen this man-made sturcture : a bus-stop,  as it is the place where I visit everyday in order to go to HBP, and I am going to meet it very often in my 3-years life in university.

Here is the picture of the bus-stop :

Final coloured drawing with description :

I felt very satisfied in it especially when I tried water-colouring for the very 1st time after 6 years. It was fun and thanks to my all my friends, lecturers (who taught me how to water-colour it) and Youtube (in which I learnt some of the technics there).

PROJECT 2 : NATURAL & MAN-MADE STRUCTURES ( Project 2a: Natural Structure )

§  Students are required to produce a black & white sketch of a natural structure that can be found around USM Main Campus e.g. trees & plants, insects, animals, other creatures etc.
§  The sketch should include the elements of light and shadow.
§  Students are also required to do write up (using ‘uppercase architectural lettering’) describing the object chosen for the sketch.

We are required to sketch and what troubles me the most is the BLACK AND WHITE PART . This is my drawing of a plant called Talathea Lutea, which is found in front of Pusat Sejahtera USM.

PROJECT 1 : ME , MYSELF & I (Project 1b: Personal Logo)

  • Students need to create a ' PERSONAL LOGO ' that best reflects their personality and strengths.
  • Students should also need to clarify the design of the logo by describing the rationales for design elements used (such as line, shape, form, colour etc).
For this section of project, we are required to create our logo for ourselves. Many of my friends are using their names as their logo, by which they created many different styles of art writing of their names with different patterns and colours. As for me, I decided to do something different from them.

I decided to relate my name to the environment. Since environmental issues are the main hot topics nowadays, I had decided to draw a green tree behind my name in order to show how much I care about the nature and to alert all my fellow friends of the importance of  conserving and preserving the green trees around us.

There are a few ideas of mine.

FINAL PRODUCT :

LOVE GREEN , LOVE LIFE

PROJECT 1 : ME , MYSELF & I (Project 1a: Stewardship)

Project 1a: Stewardship
  •  Students need to sketch their own face (self-portrait) with a pencil (black & white)

§     Students also need to write some descriptions about themselves, by describing their:
i)                     Personal background
ii)                   How they see themselves in 5 years later
iii)                  As an architect / interior designer / urban & regional planner / building surveyor / building technologist / quantity surveyor / or construction manager, what can they contribute for the betterment of the built environment

Well, this is an extremely hard task for me to do as it involves DRAWING. It has been ages since the last time I drew. Honestly speaking, I am poor in drawing and drawing is not what I like / love to do since young, although I had been sent for a learning class for 2 years during kindergarten time, in which I had been taught of how to use crayons and water colours.

However, the 1st project doesn't seem to trouble me a lot. I had tried a lot of times in drawing my own HANDSOME face, and I greatly thinks that when one has the will, he/she can definitely do it if he/she has the determination to do so.

This is my 1st drawing of myself on a piece of paper.

I showed it to my friends after i drew it, PROUDLY. However, my useless friends laughed at it and they said that i had accidentally drew another person instead.

 OH MY GOD !!!

Well, I think that is quite fun and I enjoyed it a lot. I had drawn non-stop almost everyday and finally, I managed to produce a drawing which satisfied me a lot.

Finally! Yeah! Drawing with essay regarding personal background, how I see myself in 5 years later, and what can I contribute for the betterment of the built environment.

I am happy as I am looking forward to start and begin my new university life, while what makes me sad is the 'unwilling' to left my sweetest home and my dearest family members. However, I know that this is one of the process in my life and I must face it courageously. 3 years.  3 years3 years ONLY....
